MicroUP Challenge – BioInnovation through Synthetic Microbial Biotechnology
Have a scientific idea with real-world potential? The MicroUP Challenge is designed to help turn it into an innovation concept.
Applications are now open for the MicroUP Challenge – BioInnovation through Synthetic Microbial Biotechnology.
The Challenge invites students and early-career researchers worldwide to form teams of 2–4 members and develop early-stage ideas that use microorganisms, enzymes, synthetic biology or related biotechnology approaches to address real-world challenges.
Relevant topics include, among others, synthetic biology, biocatalysis, sustainable biomanufacturing, biorefineries, waste-stream valorization, bio-based products, environmental biotechnology and high-value bioproducts.
No preliminary experimental data or proof of concept are required.
Selected teams will join an 8-week development programme with expert seminars, mentoring opportunities, business-model support, IP/technology-transfer guidance and pitch preparation, culminating in a Final Competition in December 2026.
