AI Tools

The EULiST AI Toolkit is designed to support higher education, research, and innovation by simplifying complex tasks, offering data-driven insights, improving productivity and efficiency, and enhancing inclusiveness and collaboration across the EULiST alliance. It offers a suite of advanced AI-powered tools developed collaboratively within the EULiST European University and integrated into the EULiST Digital Campus. In line with EULiST’s commitment to digital transformation and the responsible use of technology for societal benefit, the AI Toolkit positions the alliance at the forefront of AI adoption in European higher education.

Its key objectives include improving teaching and optimising learning outcomes through intelligent learning assistant systems, supporting informed decisions via personalised recommendations, proactively addressing potential issues with the help of predictive learning analytics, streamlining research workflows and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across Europe through automation and intelligent data analysis, and reducing administrative burden through data-driven decision-making.

For now, the following five AI tools have been integrated into the EULiST Digital Campus:

AI-powered course mapping

The EULiST Course Mapping Tool is designed to recommend equivalent or similar courses across EULiST universities for students, faculty members, and administrative staff by analysing course data and metadata.

  • For students, it can support Erasmus+ mobility planning by helping identify courses at EULiST partner universities that may align with their home university curriculum.
  • For faculty members, it can support co-teaching, curriculum alignment, and staff mobility planning by identifying similar courses across the alliance.
  • For administrative personnel, it can assist in course recognition and equivalence validation by quantifying and automating course similarity, streamlining Erasmus+ student exchange processes.

AI-based identification of research funding opportunities

The EULiST Call Finder Tool is designed to support faculty members and researchers in identifying relevant funding opportunities. It retrieves relevant funding calls from the official European Commission portal based on a short description of a research area or problem the users want to address, supporting the development of new projects and research collaborations.

Discovery of university members with similar research interests

The EULiST Academic Similarity Search Tool is designed to help faculty members and researchers identify colleagues with similar or specific research interests across EULiST universities. It retrieves relevant researchers and recent academic publications across the alliance based on user-provided search keywords, supporting inter-university collaboration, joint research projects, and knowledge exchange.

Automated text-to-speech generation

The EULiST Speech-to-Text Tool is an AI-powered system designed to transform written text into natural-sounding speech. It leverages state-of-the-art Text to Speech (TTS) open-source models to generate audio in English, making academic and administrative materials more accessible. This tool can benefit all members of the university community (students, faculty members, researchers, and administrative staff), fostering inclusiveness and supporting users with visual impairments or other accessibility needs.

AI-enabled multilingual translation

The EULiST Multilingual Translation Tool is an AI-powered system designed to facilitate seamless multilingual communication across EULiST universities by translating teaching materials, academic content, administrative documents and other written materials. It leverages state-of-the-art natural language processing (NLP) models to provide high-quality, context-aware translations. It currently supports 10 languages, covering all official languages of the EULiST partner universities as well as English. By helping overcome language barriers and making information more accessible to students, faculty, researchers, and administrative staff, the tool fosters collaboration, inclusiveness, and knowledge exchange across diverse linguistic communities.
