EULiST Blended Intensive Programme – Summer School: «Energy Transitions and Society»

LUT University is organizing this interactive course where the future of energy systems from a social perspective will be critically explored, addressing key challenges of the transition to renewable energy and the importance of historical context in shaping energy pathways.

Target Audience

Bachelor’s level students (Master level students are also welcomed to attend).

Objectives and description

The course encourages students to reflect on their role as citizens in contributing to more just and sustainable energy systems, examining the dynamics of energy transitions, including societal impacts, policy frameworks, and sustainable development challenges, while learning to evaluate low-carbon strategies from multidisciplinary perspectives.

Through role-playing exercises, participants engage in simulated energy projects, taking on roles such as policymakers, engineers, activists, corporate leaders, and community representatives. These simulations focus on multi-stakeholder negotiation and decision-making, fostering empathy, strategic thinking, systems-level analysis, and problem-based learning.

The course combines lectures, peer discussions, individual assignments, role-playing activities, and group projects.

Interested students should contact their university’s Erasmus office and EULiST local coordinator for more institution-specific information such as different application deadlines due to internal procedures. The selections will be carried out by the students’ home institutions.
