International Summer School 2026: Exploring Migration and Education – Perspectives on Teaching and Learning in glocal contexts
What does migration mean on a personal level, and how does it redefine one’s as a (current or prospective) educator?
How is cultural diversity experienced and fostered to enrich schools and teacher education?
How are – and how should – the dynamics of migration and education be discussed and addressed?
Our international Summer School invites student teachers and lecturers of all teaching professions from universities in various countries to explore these and other questions related to migration and education.
We aim to critically discuss the roles of teachers and learning environments and to develop shared visions for the future of education in migration societies.
The goal is to generate insights and strategies that empower participants to actively contribute to shaping pluricultural educational landscapes.
In times of increasing global mobility, migration and education are fields of reflection and practice that are closely intertwined. From schools to teacher education, but also in extracurricular contexts, educational spaces reflect the social, cultural, and linguistic diversity of today’s societies.
They are places where the challenges and opportunities of migration become visible and shape how education is understood, designed, and experienced. As education systems continue to evolve within societies marked by diverse migration histories, it becomes increasingly important to understand these dynamics and develop inclusive and equitable educational approaches.
The aim of the Summer School is to shed light on educational practices in different contexts, to challenge racist narratives, and to highlight resources and opportunities for action—from local initiatives to international networks. It provides a platform for transcultural dialogue among students from various countries and educational backgrounds, connecting theoretical perspectives with practice-oriented insights.
