‘Knowledge Graphs for water management’ summer school

Duration: 1 week, from Sunday 13.09.2026 to Saturday 19.09.2026

Format: In-person

Venue: Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany

Audience: Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers in the field of environmental science, water management and data science affiliated to universities in the EULiST.

General information

The Knowledge Graphs for Water Management Summer School offers an immersive learning experience combining theory, practice, and collaboration. The program includes keynote speeches, field trips, and presentations by senior lecturers and participating researchers who will share insights on using knowledge graphs for sustainable water management. In the first half of the program, participants will work on sharing and integrating water-related data from diverse sources and disciplines. In the second half, group projects will promote interdisciplinary teamwork and allow participants to apply their newly acquired skills to real-world challenges.

Topics and learning outcomes

Participants will gain:

  • A conceptual understanding of how Knowledge Graphs (KGs) and semantic models enhance water data interoperability.
  • Insights into real-world applications of semantic water management, including the use of KGs for water resource management, sustainability, and decision support.
  • Hands-on experience in the structured representation and comparison of scientific literature using the Open Research Knowledge Graph (ORKG).
  • Practical skills in semantic data models, including ontology design, KG construction, and SPARQL querying.
  • A conceptual framework for applying KGs and semantic models in their PhD or postdoctoral research.
  • Hands-on experience in collaborative, interdisciplinary project work, applying KG methods to water data.

Application requirements

Participants should be doctoral or postdoctoral researchers in environmental science, water management, or data science who are affiliated with a university in the EULiST. No previous knowledge of semantic ecosystems is necessary.

Application deadline

July 15th 2026, please submit your application via Email: maria.perez@tib.eu
