12th EULiST “Fridays for Research” Event on Aviation – Marine Transport: Fuels, Sustainability, Emissions and Social Aspects

The 12th EULiST “Fridays for Research” event on “Aviation – Marine Transport: Fuels, Sustainability, Emissions and Social Aspects” will be held as a joint online meeting on Friday 6th March 2026, 12:00 – 14:00 CET.

More specifically, representatives from the EULiST member universities will deliver 5-minute presentations on the following indicative topics:

  1. Impact of fuel costs on ticket prices and freight costs
  2. Impact of Marine transport on marine biodiversity and coastal ecology
  3. EU Emissions Trading Scheme, Carbon offsetting, Carbon leakage and competition 
  4. Black carbon emissions and artctic shipping
  5. Balast water for marine safety vias ecological impact
  6. Life cycle emissions 
  7. International climate regulations for the Aviation and Marine industry
  8. Digitalization, AI and route optimization 
  9. Environmental footprint in airports 
  10. Environmental footprint in ports
  11. Citizens’ health impacts near ports and airports 
  12. Hydrogen and ammonia storage & handling safety 

This will be followed by a 10-minute conversation to encourage more research partnerships.

A review of the main results and a presentation of the next actions will wrap up the session.
